My name is Carolyn. I am a 56-year-old white female of Scandinavian descent. My mother had osteoporosis, and her mother has osteoporosis.
In 1990 a CT scan was completed of my lower spine, checking bone density. They found that I had the bones of a 75-year-old woman. I was taking an estrogen replacement, and using calcium carbonate supplements. I am also very active and walk at least 5 days per week for 40 minutes. I continued with this program and had a repeat bone density test completed four years later only to find that I had continued to lose bone.
Of course I was concerned about this, and so started investigating myself on what was recommended to stop this process, or reverse it. At the time I changed my calcium supplement to calcium citrate, along with the necessary vitamins and minerals that are needed to be able to absorb the calcium.
